The woman exactly who spoke movingly from the Grammy stage about her experiences having domestic violence says the segment was inspired by a visit to the White House simply by Grammy show producer Ken Ehrlich.
After President Barack Obama created a 2-minute video appearance on this show calling upon musicians to pledge to halt domestic violence, Brooke Axtell took towards the Grammy stage to talk about her own experiences. Her life had been saved, she said, when she sought help at the domestic violence centre.
“Authentic love doesn't devalue another human being. Authentic love doesn't silence, shame or even abuse, ” Axtell said within a spoken-word piece.
Katy Perry followed her having a solemn performance regarding "By the Grace of God. "
Since the Washington Post reported: Within her 2012 piece, “What I Know of Silence, ” Axtell explains the role art played in helping her recover through her experiences as a victim of sexual abuse. A vocalist and poet, she has released three albums and also two collections of poems.
Art, she told Salon, is what created her a survivor, not a victim.
“When we express our creativeness, we have the capacity to decide how we will relate to our trauma and also the story we will tell about our lives, ” your woman said.
Axtell said after that both she and Perry were honored through the opportunity to address the issue before such a huge audience.
"We're at the stage in the movement for social justice where we're in desperate need of having male allies, and that means confronting inside our own communities whenever violence occurs and making certain there are interventions for those who have abused and also been abused, " the lady said.
She noted she was aware each Rihanna and Chris Brown were within the audience when she spoke. Brown has experienced a string regarding legal troubles because beating Rihanna prior to the 2009 Grammy Awards.
Neil Portnow, the recording academy's chief executive, said neither Rihanna not Brown was consulted prior to the segment aired.
